National Defense Science and Technology University successfully developed a new electromagnetic wave penetration imaging detector

Recently, the National University of Defense Technology has successfully developed a new electromagnetic wave penetration imaging detector. The detector can penetrate non-metallic media, detect small hidden objects inside and image the object with a resolution of 2 mm. It can be widely used in construction, biomedicine, anti-terrorism, security and other fields.

The detector is small in size and is equivalent to an ordinary rice cooker, and can be operated by a single person. Compared with similar devices such as X-ray machines and CT machines, their size and weight are greatly reduced. Since the device uses electromagnetic waves to complete the detection work, there is no danger of high-energy ray radiation, and there is no radioactivity at all. The operator does not need to perform special protection like the X-ray machine. The electromagnetic radiation power of the detector is extremely low, less than one tenth of the radiation of the mobile phone, and is very safe for the human body.

The detector integrates an ultra-wideband electromagnetic wave transceiver unit that can perform fast electromagnetic wave scanning inside non-metallic objects. Through the powerful digital signal processing capability, the structure of the scanned object and the shape of foreign objects are clearly displayed. The detector has a wide range of uses, which can be used to inspect the distribution of steel bars and cables in a building wall, detect early cancerous changes in biological tissues, and can be used to detect pre-embedded explosives in buildings in the field of counter-terrorism. It can detect weapons and dangerous goods hidden in the body. Lu Hao, an associate professor at the National University of Defense Technology, said: "The density of early cancerous tissue changes little. The effect of CT examination is not obvious, but the electromagnetic characteristics vary greatly. Using electromagnetic wave detection can achieve good results."
