Green packaging food packaging trend

[China Packaging Network News] At present, the amount of plastics used in China's food packaging materials has exceeded 50% of the total amount of food packaging materials, ranking first among all kinds of packaging materials. Most plastic food packaging cannot be recycled, causing environmental damage. Therefore, we should vigorously develop green packaging. And various food packaging also has its own characteristics. Not long ago, at the "Third Food Packaging Industry Chain Security Forum" held in Tianjin, the participants discussed in detail the issues of biodegradable plastics, cold chain packaging, smart packaging and food safety.

Not long ago, the “Third Food Packaging Industry Chain Security Forum” sponsored by the Lions Media Group, the China Packaging Federation, the International Plastic Packaging Chamber of Commerce and the International E-Commerce Packaging Chamber of Commerce was held in Tianjin. Participants elaborated on the different characteristics of various packaging and future development trends.

Data - shockingly, it is imperative to promote green packaging

Li Yajuan, President of Jinhui Zhaolong High-tech Co., Ltd. shared a set of data: 8%-10% of metal packaging in China's food packaging; 32%-35% of paper packaging; 4%-6% of glass packaging; 4%; plastic packaging is greater than 50%.

At present, the amount of plastics used in food packaging materials in China has exceeded 50% of the total amount of food packaging materials, ranking first among various packaging materials. Most plastic food packaging cannot be recycled.

ASD company's new research report shows that China uses an average of 5-8 plastic bags per day, most of which are disposable plastic bags. The annual consumption of disposable plastic bags in China is about 1 million tons. The other food packaging is conservatively estimated at more than 2 million tons.

At present, the daily express delivery volume has reached 60 million, with 17 billion meters of tape and 8.2 billion plastic bags. It is estimated that by 2020, the national express delivery volume will reach 50 billion pieces, 20 billion plastic bags and 7 billion bubble cushion bags.

According to the data of the three big take-out platforms, the average daily order volume is about 7 million units. In addition to 3 plastic lunch boxes and one to two plastic bags, each one also includes disposable chopsticks, plastic spoons and soup cups. , straws, etc., these disposable food and beverage supplies generally do not enter the recycling system after disposal. It is estimated that the annual consumption of disposable plastic lunch boxes and various foam packaging in China is close to 500,000 tons.

Looking at the world again, about 8 million tons of plastic waste enters the ocean every year, and China accounts for nearly one-third. Waste plastics float in the global ocean, and there are currently more than 150 million tons of plastic waste in the ocean, covering 88% of the area. Ninety percent of seabirds die from ingestion of plastic, causing at least $13 billion in global economic losses each year.

According to relevant data, food packaging accounts for approximately 60% of the total packaging industry. Global plastic packaging has an annual output of $80 billion to $120 billion, but 95% of these plastic packaging is for single use. At the end of the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan”, the total stock of waste plastics in China has reached 8.8 billion tons. The disposal cost of these discarded plastics is 55 times of its cost. For example, natural decay requires more than 200 years.

How to make plastic waste, causing secondary pollution and the greenhouse effect. Landfill is the main method for treating garbage in most cities in China. The accumulated land occupation of landfill exceeds 750,000 mu, and the annual economic loss is 30 billion yuan. Today, tens of thousands of suburban landfills have been closed. Natural degradation of plastics takes more than 200 years, and precipitation of additives can contaminate soil and groundwater. The extensive use of non-degradable plastic packaging has caused serious white pollution and caused irreparable damage to the ecological environment.

What is igniting hope is that the domestic ban on plastics is alleviating the pressure of plastic waste, and the world is also pushing for ban, and countries are vigorously promoting green packaging.

Biodegradable plastic packaging market has great potential

Jinhui Zhaolong High-tech Co., Ltd. Li Yajuan said that the demand for biodegradable plastics has continued to grow in recent years. From 2016 to 2019, the market demand for biodegradable plastic packaging will maintain an average annual growth rate of more than double digits. By 2019, the global market value of biodegradable plastic packaging will exceed $8.415 billion. According to this prediction, food and beverage packaging will be the main application area of Zui's large biodegradable plastics, and biodegradable plastics used for food packaging account for more than 70%.

In recent years, domestic and international research and development of biodegradable compostable plastics, PBAT (polyadipate/butylene terephthalate), PLA (polylactic acid), PBS (polybutylene succinate), PHA ( Polyhydroxy fatty acid esters, PHBV (polyhydroxybutyrate-valerate) have emerged. Among them, PBAT has good ductility and elongation at break, and has good processing performance, making it a new environmentally friendly potential. material.

Biodegradable compostable new plastics address white pollution from the roots. It has the same properties as traditional plastics; it can replace traditional plastics into various products to effectively fight white pollution; it can promote economic growth and ecological sustainable development.

Biodegradable plastic PBAT is a good film packaging material solution in the case of unreducible use, secondary use and unsuitable recycling.

Guangzhou Yude New Materials Co., Ltd. explained the definition and application of biodegradable materials. Completely biodegradable plastics are produced by microbial fermentation or synthesis of biodegradable polymers from natural polymers (such as starch, cellulose, chitin) or agricultural by-products. The bio-based materials are the absolute main body and are degraded into carbon dioxide and water. Wait. Destructive biodegradable plastics mainly include starch modified (or filled) polyethylene PE, polypropylene PP, polyvinyl chloride PVC, polystyrene PS, etc., which are mainly composed of plastic, partially degraded, and plastic fragments.

At present, in the application of biodegradable materials, simple applications include shopping bags, garbage bags, agricultural film, etc.; moderate applications include lunch boxes, electronic product parts, simple packaging applications, etc.; deep applications include 3D printing, printing composite film / hard plastic Such as fine packaging, Medical Equipment, etc. China's market is temporarily based on simple applications.

High value-added products temperature control packaging business opportunities

Professor Wang Jun of the Transportation Packaging and Cold Chain Logistics Research Office of Jiangnan University said that packaging will do two things. The packaging of electrical products is to control damage, and food packaging is to maintain or extend the shelf life. The three major trends in food packaging are full-course nutrition, full quality, and full safety. Whole-course nutrition – from field to consumption; full quality – from source to finish; full safety – raw material safety, manufacturing safety, logistics safety, and food safety.

Wang Jun said that the total output value of the packaging industry was more than 250 billion yuan in 2002 and exceeded 1.5 trillion in 2015. The overall level of China's packaging industry started late, the technology is weak, the scale of enterprises is small, the investment in R&D is small, and the ability of technological innovation is seriously insufficient. There is a gap of 20 years with developed countries. At present, China's comprehensive cold chain circulation rate is only 19%, while the cold chain circulation rate of developed countries such as the United States and Japan has reached more than 85%. The customer base of cold chain logistics can be divided into two markets: B2B and B2C. According to data released by the Ministry of Commerce in 2014, B2B accounts for 3/4 of the total market, and B2C accounts for 1/4 of the total market. The B2C market is affected by the development of e-commerce. From the period of 2012-2014, its annual growth rate has reached 80%-120%. In 2015, the market for cold chain logistics home delivery reached RMB 4 billion.

Cold chain objects are temperature sensitive products such as food, pharmaceuticals, biological products, and fresh.

Two ways of cold chain logistics: active cold chain and passive cold chain. The active cold chain is a cold storage and refrigerated truck using active refrigeration equipment. It is characterized by stability and reliability, but it is only suitable for storage and transportation of large-volume products, and is generally used for B2B. Passive cold chain adopts incubator and insulated bag of passive cold storage technology. Its characteristics are small and flexible, can be applied to scattered products and "one kilometer after zui", generally used for B2C.

Temperature-controlled packaging absorbs excess heat through the phase change process of the coolant. The heat exchange material reduces the heat exchange inside and outside the package. Temperature-controlled packaging requires that the surface area of the outer packaging container be as small as possible; the phase change temperature of the coolant meets the product requirements; and the cold storage agent has a long cold storage time.

Regarding the main problems existing in the current insulation packaging materials, Wang Jun believes that there are three major problems, first of all, "white pollution." He said that petroleum-based foaming materials are currently economically effective insulation materials for zui, but they are not naturally degradable and have limitations in exporting products. Second, the cost is high. PU and aerogel have excellent thermal insulation properties, but their raw materials and processing costs are too high, which seriously restricts their promotion and application. Third, recycling issues. At present, insulated containers are generally used once and there is a great waste of resources.

Regarding the development direction of thermal insulation packaging materials, Wang Jun said that the biodegradable petroleum-based foaming material is a direction, and the bio-based thermal insulation material uses a new foaming process such as microwave to develop environmentally friendly new thermal insulation materials. In addition, collapsible, recyclable insulated containers and their recycling mechanisms are also a direction for the development of thermal insulation packaging materials.

There are still some problems with the application of coolants. First, the phase transition temperature is too narrow. At present, the phase transition temperature of low-temperature cold storage agent is mainly -18 ° C, 0 ° C - 2 ° C, while the storage temperature of 2 ° C - 10 ° C required for bulk fruits and vegetables is higher and the latent heat of phase change is lower. Second, the cold storage speed is slow. Since the cold storage of the cold storage agent mainly uses cold storage static storage, and the thermal conductivity of the cold storage agent is low, the heat exchange efficiency is low, and the cold storage speed is slow, which affects the use efficiency. Third, the cost is too high. Due to the current unsound recovery mechanism of the cold storage agent, the cost of temperature control packaging is high and cannot be widely applied.

There are three key points and development directions of coolant research and development: one is the development of high-performance cold storage agent from 2 °C to 10 °C; the other is the research and development of rapid cold storage technology for cold storage agent. By increasing the thermal conductivity of the coolant, and developing a new dynamic cooling technology to improve the cold storage rate of the cold storage agent. The third is to establish a recycling mechanism for the refrigerant.

Wang Jun believes that temperature control packaging is challenging, the basic data of temperature control packaging is lacking, the standard is almost blank, one kilometer after Zui and cost problems, transportation efficiency problems, recycling and reuse issues need to be resolved. The problems and opportunities coexist, the high-value-added products temperature control packaging business opportunities are emerging, and the passive cold chain packaging of bulk agricultural products is still far away.

Smart packaging smartly helps food safety

Representatives of the Lions Media Group cited a large amount of data to explain the relationship between smart packaging and food safety.

According to data from a research report, the current cost of fraud accounts for more than 2% of global economic output, or about $1.8 trillion per year for fraud. Even more shocking is that fraud is expanding at a rate of 15% per year. Consumer goods account for more than 46% of counterfeit trade, including food and beverages, cosmetics and other items. In order to protect brand equity, anti-counterfeiting and traceability measures on packaging will become crucial.

With the advent of the concept of Industry 4.0, food packaging has gradually become high-end, and smart packaging has begun to enter people's field of vision. Where is smart packaging intelligence? Intelligent * performance is a food safety issue, smart packaging can detect the quality of food, or effective anti-counterfeiting, protect consumers' rights and interests, and achieve product traceability.

Allied Market Report released the 2020 food and beverage anti-counterfeiting packaging market forecast report. It is expected that by 2020, hologram anti-counterfeiting technology will continue to maintain its dominant position in anti-counterfeiting packaging technology, but RFID (RFID) The abbreviation of Radio Frequency Identification; that is, radio frequency identification technology; commonly known as electronic tag) technology and bar code, especially QR code anti-counterfeiting will grow rapidly. At present, holograms account for about 2/3 of the entire anti-counterfeiting market and will continue to dominate in the future. In the future, RFID technology applications will grow at an annual rate of 20.4%. Barcode anti-counterfeiting traces help maintain a complete supply chain and have great potential in food anti-counterfeiting.
