Misuse of urea

The nitrogen content of urea is 46.6%, which is a good quality chemical fertilizer used in rural areas. Because some farmers' friends do not understand the nature of urea, there are often many misunderstandings in the application process. Specific performance in the following areas:

1, mixed with ammonium bicarbonate. Since urea is converted into ammonia after it is applied to soil, it can be absorbed by crops, and its conversion rate is much slower under alkaline conditions than under acidic conditions. The application of ammonium bicarbonate into the soil is alkaline reaction, which will greatly slow down the rate of urea conversion, easily lead to the loss and volatilization of urea and reduce the utilization of urea. Therefore, urea and ammonium bicarbonate should not be mixed or applied simultaneously.

2. Surface spread. Urea is applied to the surface of the earth. At room temperature, it takes 3 to 5 days for transformation to be absorbed by crops. Most of the nitrogen is volatilized during the conversion of urea to ammonium. The utilization rate is only 30%. The loss of nitrogen is faster and faster. Therefore, when a peasant friend applies urea, he can't save time and spread the surface.

3, used as a fertilizer. In the production process, urea often produces a small amount of biuret. Biuret content of more than 2% will cause poisoning to seeds and seedlings, affect seed germination and seedling growth, and severe cases will cause dead seedlings.

4, water immediately after application. Urea is an amide nitrogen fertilizer which must be converted into ammonium nitrogen before it can be used by crops. The conversion process depends on the conditions of soil quality, moisture, and temperature. The time varies, and it usually takes 2 to 10 hours to complete. If water is applied immediately after application, urea will dissolve in water and be largely lost.

5, mixed with alkaline fertilizer. After urea is applied, it must be converted into ammonium nitrogen to be absorbed and utilized by crops. Ammonium nitrogen under alkaline conditions, most of the nitrogen will become volatile ammonia, therefore, urea can not be mixed with lime, grass ash, calcium magnesium phosphate fertilizer and other alkaline fertilizers or used simultaneously.

6. Apply on celery. The celery must be topped with a large amount of nitrogen fertilizer during the entire growth period, but urea should not be used. Because the topdressing of urea will make the celery fibers thicker, the plants will age, grow slowly, and have a bitter taste and quality. Fertilizing celery should use ammonium bicarbonate, ammonia and organic fertilizers, which will help improve quality.
