Australia begins to promote non-genetically modified certification

Australia recently established GMO-ID Australia, a non-genetically modified (GMO-free) food certification organization, which is a subsidiary of Australia's HACCP International Certification Co., Ltd. and has been specializing in product certification for the food industry since 1998. The company will use the "Cert ID Non GMO" (Cert ID) certification system in Australia and the Pacific.

The Cert ID certification system will provide a range of third-party certification programs for the food industry, including farmers, growers, manufacturers, suppliers, retailers, and catering companies. The certification body will be listed on the GMO-ID Australia website.

Products with "non-genetically modified" labels carry the largest number of snacks, dairy products, and bakery ingredients for products carrying "non-GMO" labels. According to Innova Market Insights' market analysis, these products are globally "non-transgenic" labels. 14.1%, 13.3% and 12.5% ​​of the quantities issued, respectively. Innova Market Insights stated that the widespread use of non-GM-labels in such foods reflects the importance of genetically modified ingredients in areas where large amounts of cereals are used as food or feed.

The Vermont State House passed the GM Labeling Act. Meanwhile, the Vermont State House passed the H.112 Act, requiring all GM foods to be labeled.

The bill also restricts the use of words such as "natural", "naturally produced", "naturally grown", "naturally natural" or similar in foods containing genetically modified ingredients because it misleads consumers.

To become the final law, the bill needs to be passed in the Senate. If approved by the Senate, the bill will come into effect on July 1, 2014.

According to the act, 70% to 80% of processed food sold in the United States contains at least one genetically modified component.
