Successful development of spider blood vessel manufacturing methods

Release date: 2013-08-30

British researchers have recently developed a method similar to the spider network to make cultured blood vessels. Scientists use a fixed amount of cell-mixed polymers to "weave" new tissues. Researchers hope to use this method to generate new tissues, and they have successfully built new blood vessels using this technique in mice.

At present, researchers have developed a number of methods to try to generate tissue and organ under laboratory conditions, such as using a synthetic scaffold to immobilize the patient's own cells, and after the differentiation and maturation, new tissue can be formed and then returned to the patient. Another method is similar to organ transplantation, in which an organ is taken out of the body and the cells are removed with a detergent, leaving only the protein skeleton. The patient cells are then inoculated to avoid immune rejection. The technique reported this time is to use electrospinning technology to extract cells cultured in a liquid medium with a 1000V electrothermal needle to form a filament and form a mesh, and the cells are distributed in the middle of the cells. Researchers have used this technique to generate three-layered mouse blood vessels.

Dr Jayasinghe from the research team said that before humans could not directly form a complete organ, this work opened up a new path for this purpose.
